So I challenge you, yes you reading this right now, to go outside and pick up arms on the side of nature and humanity, fight against those who wish to privatize our water and our food not with guns and hate, but with nature herself.Find out more »
The Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) is a massive “free trade” agreement that isn’t really about trade. It’s now being negotiated behind closed doors and influenced by over 600 corporate advisors. If it passes, the TPP would have an impact on the food you eat, the air you breathe, the water you drink, and the cost of your medications. It would give the green light to global corporations that send jobs overseas, thus undermining the U.S. labor movement and creating a global race to the bottom. The TPP would undermine democracy worldwide and forever change the way we use the internet.Find out more »

Farmers in East Java and all over Indonesia are celebratng a landmark victory that may revolutonize Indonesian laws related to intellectual property.
“Since the entry of Indonesia into the World Trade Organizaton in 1995 we farmers have lived in fear,” said Kunjoro from Indonesia Peasant Alliance (API) . “Our traditonal practces of breeding seeds, techniques used for generatons to protect biodiversity and increase agricultural producton were suddenly deemed illegal. The government was willing to lock us in jail or impose heavy penaltes at the behest of a few companies who wanted to patent seeds.”
A committee of technical experts comprising scientists from top public research laboratories and academic institutions set up by the Supreme Court last year has changed the 10-year moratorium on field trials of Bt transgenics that it recommended in October 2012 to what appears to be an indefinite moratorium on food crops in its final report.Find out more »

Although seed registering has been legal in Chile in the last 15 years, seed production had actually still remained in the hands of farmers. The vast majority of fruits and vegetables we buy in open markets come from small and medium farming, based on their autonomy of production.
This is the reality that the new Plant Breeders Bill now wants to change. The initiative passed the House of Representatives in 2011 and is now discussed at the Senate. We call it “privatization of the seed level 2″, linked to UPOV 91 which guarantees royalties for owners of hybrid seeds and/or GMOs.

The Food Sovereignty Prize was first awarded in 2009 as an alternative to the World Food Prize founded by “the father of the Green Revolution,” the late Norman Borlaug. While the World Food Prize emphasizes increased production through technology, the Food Sovereignty Prize champions solutions coming from those most impacted by the injustices of the global food system. In honoring those who are taking back their food systems, the Food Sovereignty Prize affirms that nothing short of the true democratization of our food system will enable us to end hunger once and for all.Find out more »
Starting June 30th, we need millions of people to stop eating Monsanto products.
The only way we could get Monsanto to pay attention is a boycott. A march could only do so much because it gets no media coverage, and does nothing in terms of affecting their sales. The only way to get their attention and make real change is direct action. If we could affect their profits they might change their attitudes towards things like GMO labeling, gene patenting, shady legal practices, using agriculture practices that …rely on petrochemicals that are bad for the environment, putting small farms out of business, and prohibiting GMO bans in local towns and counties.

Today German Parliament will change German patent law to prohibit patents on plants and animals derived from conventional breeding. This is in line with demands from many civil society organisations which request changes in patent law to prevent patents such as the recently granted “patent on severed broccoli” from Monsanto (EP 1597965). Nevertheless the new patent law will still leave substantive loopholes for similar patents. It is unlikely that other more comprehensive proposals put forward by the opposition parties in the German Parliament (Social Democrats and Green Party) will find a majority of support. Furthermore, the European Patent Office (EPO) is also not bound by this vote.Find out more »

The inclusion of a teacher’s guide in Monsanto’s activity book suggests that this guide is intended for inclusion into elementary school curricula across the country. The implementation of this book into school programs implies that the information contained within it is true. This is not the case. On Tuesday 11th June, the Senate resumes processing the Plant Breeders Act, which repeals the existing Seeds Act to enable the enactment of UPOV 91, tailored to hybrid and transgenic seeds corporations like Monsanto. The Breeders Bill contains articles that, among other aberrations, prohibit the exchange and saving of seed and allow the breeder (Monsanto, Bayer, von Baer, Dupont, Syngenta, etc.) to sue the offender for “piracy”. The Bill was presented by former President Bachelet and then opposed by small farmers and social organizations. Payment of royalty or patent extends not only to the seed but the products derived from it.Find out more »
A three-judge panel at the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit ruled today that a group of organic and otherwise non-GMO farmer and seed company plaintiffs are not entitled to bring a lawsuit to protect themselves from Monsanto’s transgenic seed patents “because Monsanto has made binding assurances that it will not ‘take legal action against growers whose crops might inadvertently contain traces of Monsanto biotech genes (because, for example, some transgenic seed or pollen blew onto the grower’s land).’”Find out more »

Congratulations to all the campaigners who worked on this, the next piece in the puzzle to making the whole of BC GE Free.
The idea is to plant a community garden outside the venue of the hunger summit. This will demonstrate that food is a right for everyone not a commodity to make profit from.
